If it's got our warranty on it, you know it's been done right

When the worst happens and chunks of your car's underside have disappeared during the preparation process, there's only really three options;

(A) Repair it properly;
(B) Do a patch-it-up basic repair;
(C) Disposal (either Sell it on as is or Scrap it for parts)

Naturally we generally prefer option A but we completely appreciate that most owners enter this process with a budget in mind. When we discover a vehicle needs repairs during the rustproofing process we keep you in the loop with lots of pictures and messaging. If you are able we encourage you to come down and see the problem for yourself and talk through the best option for you with us.
We categorise the level of repairs into five stages as follows


Mini Repairs

Might be some pitting and / or a couple of tiny holes.

Minor Repairs

Could be larger amounts of the above or some small holes.

Midi Repairs

Could be a combo of Mini & Minor and / or bigger holes.

Major Repairs

Could be larger amounts of Midi
and / or significant holes.

Severe Repairs

When large amounts of fabrication is needed or new panels.

Pitting

Repairs to pitting depends on where it is and whether it will be visable. On the underside, under covers, there is little need to do more than apply a layer of chemical metal filler. If the pitting is on show, a layer of filler may be added to get an ultra smooth finish.

Small Holes

Very small holes can be filled with chemical metal filler. Before applying the filler, it's necessary to get the area clean and grinded back so that a nice neat finish can be achieved. If the repair is on show, a layer of filler may be added to get an ultra smooth finish.


Bigger Holes

Anything larger than 2mm in diameter will have a plate repair, where we cut out the failed metal into a neat square or rectangle and make a metal patch to be welded in the hole. We use quality British plate steel to make patches and use a variety of welding equipment to get the best finish.

Fabrication

For larger, more complex holes or severely damaged areas, we may need to fabricate a whole new section to be welded on. We have all the equipment to make high quality replacement sections from quality British plate steel and use a variety of welding equipment for top results.


New Panels

Sometimes it is more cost effective to buy in a ready made repair panel (such as sills) if its a commonly needed part it will be available cheaper than we can make it. We will prepare the areas for it to be joined using a variety of equipment to get a high quality weld.

Finishing Touches

All our repairs get any welds grinded back to check for penetration holes, then the repair edges are coated in seam sealer before the whole repair is coated in Zinc Primer and / or Zinc Oxide paint to give the welding and new steel maximum protection from corrosion.

Timescale

On average, most rustrepairs can be done within 1 - 2 weeks. However with severe cases it can be a month or so. Obviously the more there is to do, the longer it takes and the more it costs.

Warranty

We take a great deal of pride in our workmanship and we guarantee our rustrepairs will be of the highest standard. As such all our workmanship gets afforded our fully comprehensive warranty.


So what about options B & C?

We don't like compromising our standards of repair, doing a botch or temporary patch up isn't our specialism but we do appreciate that for some customers this is the option that works with their budget so whilst we may not willing to offer it in-house, we can arrange for it to be done at a local neighbouring garage with the skills.

If you want to dispose of the vehicle without further spend, we can arrange for a local breakers to collect it or you can arrange for it to be picked up. There's likely to be a small bill of some sort for the preparation to date which will also need settling before the vehicle leaves site.
